Marcella is in 6th grade and attends the school Ocean Breeze Elementary
The art Marcella created is about how the very world we live in is getting ruined by our actions and what is needed for the environment to be in a pristine condition. Major causes of environmental damage that aren’t well known to the general population are explained below.
1. PH change: runoff from fertilizer and power plants cause the PH of soil and water to change, causing certain native plant species to have more difficulty growing, meaning less food for the herbivores, meaning there is less food for the carnivores, causing great devastation to the ecosystem.
2. Uninhabited regions getting broken up: roads and other Man-Made structures make it harder for animals to travel, an animal may travel for many reasons for example, a city is in the flight path of migrating birds, the birds end up flying full speed into the windows because they can’t see the glass. Another example is there is a high-speed highway going through a forest, a bear needs to cross the highway in order to find a mate, But the bear likely would get hit by a car since the cars on the highway won’t be able to stop in time for the bear to cross the road.
3. Predator loss: the loss of apex predators means that prey animal species overpopulate and consume most of the vegetation, causing a lot of those same animals to suffer of starvation.
