Micah B. and Evan R.
Ocean Breeze Elementary School 3rd grade Built for hermit crabs

Evan has 2 hermit crabs and he wants this home for his crabs.

The temperature inside the terrarium should always be between 72 and 82 degrees. They also need moist, humid air to breathe properly. Mist your tank with dechlorinated water to keep relative humidity between 60-80%.

  • Climbable things
  •  Food and water dishes
  •  Sand
  •  Something to hide in
  •  Other shells to grow in
  •  Plants and decor

We had to look up information about hermit crab habitats on the internet.

We used a hot glue gun to attach the different materials to create the hermit crab house.

We had help from the teacher using the razor blade.

This habitat is in 3 sections with tubes connecting them. There is a food and water room. The water dish can be drained to the outside.

The teacher also helped us use the drill and that was the one power tool.

Evan’s hermit crabs explored the rooms. One settled in the food area and the other traveled through the tube to the sleeping area.

  • Great job, you used recycled materials and really put a lot of thought into this project. How would you regulate the temperature of the habitat?
