Our Team

We are a group 3 of 11-year-old 5th graders: Will, Cooper, and Chance. Will likes pizza, baseball, hot dogs, and baseball cards. Cooper Likes pizza, Minecraft, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and computers. Chance likes pizza, football, basketball, football cards, and video games.

 Design Process

Our design of the solar car is a Marvel themed, and we came up with that theme because Chance suggested it and we all agreed with it. Then after coming up with the design, we started building the car. It’s dimensions are 36 x 18 x 22 cm. The first thing we did while building the car was get all the materials we needed, including wheels, a rubber band, a solar panel, and other materials. After getting the materials we connected the wheels to the axles. Then, we put the axles in the base of the car. Next, we put the motor on with duct tape and added the solar panel. When we finished assembly, we started designing. The first thing we did to design the car was to paint the base of the car with galaxy-like colors: purple, light blue, black, and white for stars. When the paint dried, Chance made Stormbreaker, Thor’s ax from Avengers Infinity War.  That same member also made a Captain America shield from the first Captain America movie. We also added an Iron Man helmet from the Iron Man movie. The last thing we added to the car was the Infinity Gauntlet from Infinity War and we put it on the back of the car. We also made a Hawkeye bow, but did not add it to the car. We had problems with the rubber band We went through about 10 rubber bands trying to to find the right one. Also the Infinity Gauntlet and Iron Man helmet were flimsy so we added Popsicle sticks for support.

Flow Of Energy

In a solar conversion, the sun gives light energy to the solar panels, which converts into electric energy, that travels through wires to the motor, which uses mechanical energy to make the pulley move, which spins the axles, which spins the wheels, moving the car.

Car Performance

We did three extra test to find speed. Test 1 took 8.89 seconds to go ten meters. Test 2 took 11.73 seconds to go ten meters. Test 3 took 10.99 seconds to go ten meters. When you add those three together you get 31.61 seconds. Divide 10 meters by 31.61 you get 0.9496676 meters per second.
